On 4th December 2023 the Society Annual General Meeting was held. There was no change to the committee.
After considerable discussion a new initiative was proposed to run a beginners course at the monthly meetings starting in March 2024. Further details in due course.
After the AGM., there was food to be eaten and trees to be worked on.
These included a Scots Pine that was unwired, rewired and branches removed, a Juniper had branches removed and wired, and another Juniper was also unwired. It was a good workshop.
The 2023 Tree of the Month was a ding dong battle all year with geoff the winner by just one point, with Paul second. In the new competition Paul was first with a Korean Hornbeam, Geoff was second with a Premna.

On 6th November the members were treated to an excellent talk and critique by Bill Baker. He talked about how he started some 40 years ago, and what he has done including collecting trees and showing.
He then did a critique of members' trees, which they found very useful for the future development of their trees.

The September workshop included setting up the display for the Heathrow show. Then some trees were worked on including a large Scots Pine.
The August workshop was excellent, and very busy. The air layer made in April had plenty of roots so was removed and put into a pot. Other species worked included Larch, Maples a huge Cedar and a big Yew.

The June meeting was a talk by Collette, she talked about flowering species. It was an excellent talk, starting with Wisteria, how to prune and water, then on to other species including Cotoneaster and Podocarpus. The talk was well received by the members.
Then after a break questions covering many aspects of growing trees including the loss of trees due to the weather conditions in recent years.

The May meeting was the talk by Trevor Banbury on what else but Box bonsai. He has grown and collected Box for many years and has some that are 600 years old. He went through how to grow when to re pot and what to use for fertiliser. Everyone enjoyed it. In the background was Tony Oswin pruning and wiring trees brought in by members.

The April meeting was a workshop and demonstration of air layering. First Geoff did an air layer on a large Maple stump, the the members and visitors were able to do an air layer as well. There was also some re potting.

The March workshop was excellent, with two new members bringing material to work on. One was a large Scots Pine which was re potted. Also re potted was a cascade Larch with a broken pot, plus another Larch and a small Olive amongst others.

The November meeting was a workshop with Trevor Banbury using clinker he had collected to plant on. Great fun and everyone got their hands dirty.

The October meeting was a good workshop. Some trees were brought in that had been bought at the Bonsai Live show in Telford over the first and second of October. Other trees wire wired pr pruned and some leaves removed.

Paul and Grahame and Leslie set up the display at the Heathrow show at the new venue in Bracknell. Trees were loaned by Paul, Malcolm and Anthony These are the picture from the show. The first picture is the Salisbury Bonsai Society display.
The meeting on 5th September was a workshop and setting up the display for the Heathrow show at Bracknell on Sunday 11th September. Some trees were got ready for the show others just worked on.

The August meeting was a workshop with Collette. There was a big Chinese Elm brought in that had been neglected for some years. Collette started by checking the roots and then did some judicious pruning. The finished tree looked much better.

In June we had an excellent talk and demonstration by Chris Thomas on accents and kusamono. He made several nice pieces with plants he obtained from a garden centre. It was a thought provoking interesting talk.

4th March was the talk by Collette Harrison on flowering species. Species included Satsuki, Cotoneaster, Pyracantha and more. It was a very interesting talk which the members all enjoyed.
The workshop on 7th March was for re potting. Larch and a Juniper as well as a Yew were re potted.
The first meeting for twenty three months was on 7th February where there was a workshop. Two new members joined and a number of trees were worked on.
